ABOUT US

Community Media Design is a non-profit social enterprise company specialising in educational multimedia training.

Community Media Design's Mission Statement :-
To Educate and Empower People with the Tools to Enhance their Education, Social and Employment Opportunities.

And CMD aims to do this by providing and facilitating community access to Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Media Technology, through the provision of training services.

What this means is that we offer clients the opportunity to gain valuable skills in the use of industry-standard software in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, and thereby improve the quality of their lives in the present and explore their potential for continued improvement for the future.

Courses are delivered using a combination of group tutorials, one-to-one support and the use of computer-based and written learning materials all at the student’s pace. Equally important is the valuable opportunity to put the skills learnt on a course into practice with CMD in a ‘real work’ environment on work placement.

Students can earn nationally recognised qualifications (eDCC*) in one or more core IT skills such as File Management,   Email,   Computer Management,   Windows XP.

Further progression is covered by specific courses in Web Page Design,   Flash Web Page Animation,   Graphic Design,   Digital Music Production,   Microsoft Office Suite.

CMD has been formed by a group of tutors and trainers who have previously worked in a mixture of community-based schools, adult education institutes and/or private teaching organisations; together they have over 17 years experience between them.

As our name implies we work mainly in and for the benefit of the community, and our courses are designed with a wide range of learning abilities in mind. CMD also take no profits, all 'excess of income over expenditure' being put towards improvement in learning facilities and equipment, as well as recruitment and retention of dedicated, quality staff.

CMD have structured courses each following a pre-set syllabus; we can also tailor specific courses for organisations including private/public companies.

Our clients have included both young and mature jobseekers referred from several boroughs’ Job Centres and ‘Step-Up’ programmes via intermediate providers; charities and local community organisations; as well as the general public and private companies. Consequently we are adept at dealing with a wide range of people.

CMD's courses are especially suitable for:

  • Those who lack, or wish to improve their, knowledge of computing
  • Socially disadvantaged people – irrespective of age, race or background
  • Community, Social and Voluntary Sector organisations
  • Refresher courses for returnees to work, (eg. from maternity, illness, travelling)
  • ‘Booster’ classes for after school clubs, holiday activity projects
  • Individuals for personal and group tuition
  • Private companies who wish to give their staff particular knowledge of specific areas.

CMD places special emphasis on Vocational training for multi-racial, ethnic minorities who for one reason or another have not been able to / do not have access to / have difficulty learning in a ‘traditional mainstream’ environment.

All courses are eDCC* certified

Accredited by the OCR (Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examination Board), eDCC* is currently being used as a key assessment tool in over 30 Education Authorities as well as numerous Further Education Colleges, Youth Clubs and Community Organisations throughout the UK.   Negotiations are under way to implement eDCC in 10 other countries.
