CMD is curently working with a number of organisations to deliver specific training in various IT areas:
- For the local school (Archbishop Michael Ramsay Technical College) a series of classes for their Summer School project.
- In conjuction with the Synergy Centre, a digital music project for a number of young offenders, with final presentation to their peers and parents.
Other projects being lined up include anti-gun & knife-crime school presentations using music and role-play; tailored computer course for residents of an old people's home;
specialist courses for the visually and, seperately, the aurally disabled;
We have just completed a Digital Music course for a youth employment organisation and a series of IT workshops for beginners, funded by Southwark Council.
The tutors received many compliments, and a few gifts, on their style, friendliness and patience, and a number of students have enrolled at local colleges for more advanced courses.
Currently we are 'recruiting' for the second of three rounds for a Refugee & Asylum Seekers into IT course.
This course will cover: File Management, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Using the Internet, Emailing, Computer Management & Security.
It will consist of 2 x 2½ hour sessions, one of which will be optional for practice, per week for 13 weeks.
Sessions are flexible and relaxed; class sizes are kept to a maximum of 10; tutors are informal and with two or three available as necessary, the attention students get is practically 1-to-1.
This course is primarily designed for refugee and asylum seekers (status pending or granted), but we are taking names for those who do not fit into this category but are absolute beginners to computers.
If you, or anyone you know, is interested get in touch and get on the list - we will start the class as soon as we have 10 names.
Our facilities include a separate secure network and room air-conditioning together with a separate lounge and vegetarian cafe area with relaxing sofas, ideal for lunch and studying.
( Makes a healthy change from balancing that sandwich on the keyboard in front of the PC monitor! ).
CMD's relationship with The Synergy Centre is progressing well and a number of new projects are being planned together.
The Synergy Centre has established itself as a leading venue for music, cultural and social events in south London, and is now involving itself more and more as a local community arts centre.
As well as holding many workshops, up-and-coming music artistes have a regular Tuesday evening slot and it is the home of The Kakatsitsi Drummers of Ghana.
CMD's partner WebRemixers has noticed an increase in the number of small and medium-sized organisations, and especially individuals going into business for themselves, requesting websites
for e-commerce (online buying) and CMS (client updatable Content Management System sites).
So if ever you were thinking about it there has never been a better time than now to work for yourself, and getting a proper website designed and constructed is an essential tool. Give them a call and see what they can do for you, their prices are very competitive.
Come and check us out, have a look around and talk to our tutors.
